Old Southern Living Room

This is the living room to my Southern home series. I have done the porch, the bed room, the entrance hall and the dining room. In all five rooms I have tried to create the feel of an old Southern mansion as it may have been before the Civil War, with the exception of modern conveniences such as electric lights, for example. The historic homes I have toured in the South mostly were not furnished in the Louis XV but in an American style called the Federal Style, which generally was more austere than the frivolous French Louis XV style. Favorite woods were mahogany or cheaper woods with veneers from mahogany. When I make use of pieces from other styles or cultures, such as the Louis XVI chairs above, I try to choose the most compatible ones, so that I can still convey the atmosphere of the old Southern house.

Thank you Fairlight! You are right, modern technology is great,  considering how much opportunities it provides, especially for young people, and you are the best example. I wish we could have enjoyed its benefits when I was your age. That doesn't mean, however, that we cannot furnish our homes with period pieces (The eclectic look is what makes interior design nowadays so interesting) and large paintings. Last house I owned, I counted over 45 works of art, all of them painted in oil, most of them rather large. In my small condo in which I am living right now I have four huge oil paintings in the living room alone, and my bathroom has turned into an art gallery. Altogether I am  counting 8 large, 7 medium to large, 5 medium, and 6 small to medium art pieces.  NO TELEVISION. Have my computer and YouTube, which is far more interesting, isn't it.?

Beautifully done! I love this style! :) I sometimes wish that the styles never changed because this has mush more detail than the new modern style... it's much more creative, nowadays, that beautiful piece of art would be replaced by the newest flat-screen TV , but again, without modern technology we wouldn't have roomstyler ;)
