NY Eve on the Mountain

Imagine a couple skiers getting lost in the mountains on New Years Eve and seeking refuge in this "Senner's" (cow boys who tend the herds high up in the mountains during the summer months) hut. Since the hut is uninhabited in the winter, the food and drinks on the table is all they managed to scrape together from their back packs.

The design is based on an experience of my brother, who likes to go for extensive hikes and ski trips in the mountains. As night fall approached, he and his party failed to find their way back. Cold and hungry, they managed to break into a cabin they believed was uninhabited. But alas, as soon as they made a fire and got comfortable, the owners of the cabins, two hunters, returned and held the whole party at gunpoint until they had explained their plight. Fortunately, the hunters transported them down the mountain in their jeep, so the story had a happy ending.

OMG Lydia, what an incredible history! Like a movie! Thank God, a happy ending. I love the floor with the grass and the snow outside. Beautiful job!

Actually, and maybe I should add that, the story and design was inspired by an event which happened to my brother, an avid mountain hiker and skier, who led a group of friends hiking in the mountains, but  failed to find the correct path back before nightfall. They had to seek shelter from the cold,  and in sheer desperation broke into a cabin .  The story continues but fortunately, after a brief encounter with the returning owners who held them hostage at gunpoint until they convinced them that they were not burglars,  it ended happily.

Thank you Russ! The idea is based on an event that happened to my brother, an avid skier and mountain hiker, who got lost with a group of friends he was leading on a hike, when nightfall set in while still high up on the mountain, and they had to break into a cabin to stay warm.
